Waverly was an ancient city, far northeast of Balic. The deserted ruins of the city sat at the center of a large island bearing the same name, located in the southwestern area of the Sea of Silt.

Description[]

Waverly was a great walled city in its prime, and even at the time of Kalak’s death the city’s walls and gate stood strong.

A large marble fountain, fashioned in the likeness of a female human with a snakelike tail, still sprays water in a shimmering arc. The city’s ancient sewers and waterways act like a series of irrigation canals that carry the overflow of water across the island, making the region in and around the city a well-watered scrub plain.

At the edges of the city, several piers mark an ancient harbor. Here, dozens of sailing ships lie half-buried. While the hulls of these ships were clearly once wooden, time has long since petrified them. The area between these piers and the Sea of Silt is rocky and barren.

History[]

Waverly’s history dated back to Athas’ Green Age. During this time, a girl named Uyness was born – she would later go on to become the Grand Vizier of Raam, Abalach-Re.

The city fell during the Cleansing Wars, leaving the city depopulated. In the Year of Wind’s Fury of the 160th King’s Age, the city, along with Arala and Ebe, were swallowed by the expanding Sea of Silt. Years later, the silt recedes, exposing the ruins of Waverly once more.

Thousands of years later, only flocks of erdlu and hives of wild kanks populate the island. The only things more numerous than these beasts are the tales told about the hidden treasures of Waverly. According to the legends, a horde of several thousand pounds of silver lie forgotten in a vault somewhere beneath the city.
