(Warlock description was mixed with sorcerer)

Sorcerers differ on Athas a lot more than they do in any other setting. The word sorcerer is commonly identified with the Sorcerer-Kings who gained their powers through being taught by [[Rajaat]]. In other settings sorcerers have gained their powers through blood lines of powerful magical creatures such as dragons. Those sorcerers are foreign to the world of Athas, though no one can say for certain that they do not exist.
Sorcerers are known for creating Pacts with creatures of the Feywilds, Outer Planes, and even Infernal pacts. Though in Dark Sun the most common Pact is that of the Sorcerer-King. Sorcerer-King Pact sorcerers do not have to be Templars.

It is tough for magic users on Athas to be trained in wielding their power, without the assistance of the Veiled Alliance or Sorcerer-Kings. Many untrained arcane users are sorcerers, going on instinct without the use of spellbooks or pacts. Training may come later down the road, if they can survive being what they are in a world that despises magic.
===Sorcerer-King Pact===

Sorcerer-Kings do not just need loyal Templars, but they also need to train others in the ways of magic. Sanctioned sorcerers are known to exist in city-states. Most are spies for the Sorcerer-King, others are adept magic users that the Sorcerer-King saw potential in.

A pact made with a Sorcerer-King is permanent for all extensive purposes and can only be undone by the Sorcerer-King himself. Those that trick the Sorcerer-King into granting them magical abilities sometimes leave the city to find ancient secrets for their master or escape their master's sight to carry on with their own agendas.
